25th Anniversary VT Hokie Goalpost Pyramid

Craig and Anne Chrisman, owners of Prestar Packaging and Creative Carding, and their sons Taylor, Preston & Parker were in the stands at Lane Stadium on that memorable day of November 26, 1999. They watched Virginia Tech beat Boston College, where they witnessed the celebrating fans storm the field to cap off the undefeated season. As the goal post fell and was carried off, Craig looked at Anne and said, “we need to figure out something to do with that!”

In the following weeks, his idea began to take shape, and he shared the idea with a mutual friend of Coach Frank Beamer’s, Wayland Overstreet (Street). Street set up a meeting between Craig and Coach Beamer where Craig discussed his plans for the goal post if any of it could be retrieved. Coach Beamer was Craig’s 8th grade math teacher at Radford High School (VA) and was an assistant football coach there while the team won 2 state championships in 1972 & 1973.

A few days later, Coach Beamer called Craig and said that Virginia Tech had received back a section of the torn down goal post and that Craig should probably “bring a big truck to pick it up”. Craig took the Prestar Packaging truck and met Coach Beamer at the stadium. The section obtained by VT was the 18-foot crossbar! Craig took the goal post to a local machine company where they cut it into small square pieces. Craig then had a company embed them into acrylic pyramids along with a description of the 1999 season that culminated with Virginia Tech playing against Florida State for the National Championship.

With Prestar Packaging being a box manufacturer, Craig designed a unique 3-piece box to hold & display the pyramids with each pyramid being numbered and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity licensed by the NCAA and approved by VT and the CLC in 2000.
